Flite Music - The Music of Chris Harvey

Me in the studio, the blue room!

Welcome to my music downloads page, finaly updated after years of neglect. Below you will find all my old CD albums, charting my early days of music production and gradual progress in sound quality, and also my variable musical direction and influences over the years. For current music please visit my soundcloud page.

Flite Music is not the musical name I go under, it is a heading for all my musical projects. Once I have some decent material for a proper release I will likely go by the name Aion, but that is subject to change.

If you have any comments on any of my tunes please send me an email :) You can follow my studio diary for an idea of what I've been up to lately and get an idea of how I make my music. I will get round to updating this picture of me in the studio sometime!

Flite - Polymath, A demo of a demo (2008)

This was the first album since moving into the modern world with Cubase SX on a PC. A collection of 30 tunes written over 3 years, Polymath contains many unfinished works and untidy moments, but it also has a few good tunes and captures the vibe of the time.

This short album was a farewell to my faithful Atari ST before moving to PC. The Atari is the perfect midi machine really; rock solid under any conditions, it crashed occasionally as everything does but it's data rate is instant and exact where PCs both exhibit delays and lower data rates when pushed hard. Together with Cubase 3 they made a very powerful sequencing package running 32 midi channels for all my midi gear.

Don't take this CD too seriously ;) Occasionally one of these tunes comes out and one shouldn't supress it! The melodies and bassline in Electric Cosak are played on the Juno-60 and Pulse synths, the shouting 'hey' sample is from Boney M's Rasputin tune, drums from Alesis HR-16 and other stuff. Somehow I ended up sampling some random Radio Moscow and using a pic of Russian dancers for the cover! It's bouncy cheesy feel meant I had to dedicate it to my friend and fellow cheese maker Stu who totally deserved it ;) Motion Freq is a more sane b-side based on a preset from the Rhodes Model 760 keyboard I had at the time, a funky dancy tune programed with a good swing to it.

This was my first digitallly recorded CD, mastering onto Philips DCC (digital compact cassette) which is essentially the same as DAT, thus the sound quality is much higher than the previous two CDs. I think maybe this contributed to making my music more 'serious' though also with new musical influences and new equipment. The CD was authored as gapless but unfortunately that doesn't work so well now they are digital files.

This was never a CD at the time, but put together a few years later from tunes that deserved a home. Particularly on here I really love Supanova, making full use of timed delays to get the best out of fairly average sounds on my old SY-55.

My second full album, starting to get cleaner and tidier but still having fun. Two notable tunes here are Exorcist; nu skool breaks based around samples and the music of the film, also Jazz for being simply unique and fun.

Wow, we can now burn CD's at home! But unfortunately at the time all the tunes were mastered to TDK SA90 chrome cassettes as you will hear from the tape hiss. You will also notice the old skool artwork having been done on an Acorn Archimedes computer, make the best of what you've got!
