Flite - Audio / Music Downloads

Me in the studio, the blue room!

Welcome to the Flite music downloads page. If you have any comments on any of these my tunes please send me an email :)

You can follow the constantly updating studio diary for an idea of what I've been up to lately and get an idea of how I make my music. I'm slowly working on varied new material for a new album but it's going to take some time. I will add to the mp3's on here when I have something worthy!

These tunes are my personal favorites from the Atari era, ordered by date in reverse.

Sub System - Test mix, not on any album (yet), 2006

Flite - Sub System.mp3

This tune has come together over a weekend, it's just a little journey into dub and hasn't got a melody or vocal yet. I'm just putting this up as a demo really, let me know what you think. The thunder you hear in the intro and outro was last night (26th Nov), I was in the studio when the storm started at about 4am so I stuck the mic out the window as you do... The bassline is from the Six-Trak which started the tune, the drums are all samples of vintage Akai analogue drum machines, the Rhodes type sound is also from the Six-trak, the off-beat piano is from the Kawai K1 with big proper fedback delays from the Quadraverb. Later in the track you here me tinkling about on the guitar and also some noises created by scratching and playing with the spring reverb. This is only a few days old and theres a lot of work still to be done...

Some may call this blip-hop or something but I'll just say it's a nice floaty paddy tune with clicky programmed percussion. Some nice midi controlled effects on the percussion section by running it directly through the Quadraverb using the control patch I describe on the Quad page. The main vibes sounds including the bass are the Jupiter. This was the last decent tune I made before switching to the sequencing on the PC. Some random Jupiter tweaking to end with.

Life Support Machine! As if old skool rave needs any help staying alive. Just one of my trips into old skool jungle techno rave stuff for the fun of it :) Loads of the old rave sounds which I'm sure you will recognise including that flippin amen break again! I like the fast moving style where nothing stays the same for more than 16 bars or so, I'm not making tunes for progressive DJ's!

Electric Cossack (a tune for stu) - Model 760 EP, 2001

Flite - Electric Cossack (a tune for stu).mp3

Very light hearted electro type stuff to put a smile on your face :) The lead sounds are played on a sampled note from my old Juno-6 for that really warm feel. The cosack shouting loop is a from Boney M's classic album Nightflight to Venus which I have on vinyl. Theres some Alesis HR-16 percussion in there including the hats and clap. The detuned fatter synth sound that takes over is the Waldorf Pulse. Then all of a sudden the mood changes into a more techy vibey feel but naturally merges back to the original melody to end.

CMI (v1.01) - Drifted CD, 2000

Flite - CMI (v1.01).mp3

Chilled out synthy stuff with a building melody as it goes through. The Pulse provides the rhythmic s/hold arpeggio, theres some random cut up vocals on top saying somthing about studios! It builds up into a sort of Jean Michel Jarre style solo and then drops down into a more ambient clicky section before the end.

Slapton - Drifted CD, 2000

Flite - Slapton.mp3

Another chilled melodic electronic tune... Starting and ending with the sound of waves on the shale at Slapton beach captured with the video camera. Also keep your ears out for various other sampled loops in the percussion section including my inkjet printer! Beat sounds all rammed through some quite heavy compression. Most of the synth sounds are from my SY-55 which used to be heavily used when I had less sound sources.

Snowfield (co-written with Scooby) - Drifted CD, 2000

Flite - Snowfield.mp3

A simple drifting melodic tune co-written with my mate Steve who you can hear playing the portamento DX7 line. It starts with industrial clangs and bangs recorded by hitting things in a multi-story carpark but soon lays back into a more chilled affair, those clanging sounds are heavily compressed in together with the drum sounds to create that sucky hard limiting. The morphing synth in the background is my old Juno-6 synced only via the arpeggio trigger input as it has no other control.

Jazz - Chain Flite CD, 2000

Flite - Jazz.mp3

This is a funky little number! Very jazz inspired but also very electro. One of those tunes that seams to fall into place very easily, lots of raw keyboard playing and human input as always. I decided some mouth noises were appropriate for some reason! All the voices you hear are me including the 'jazz' whisper. About half way through it goes a bit acid electro, all together a bit of an ecentric tune but I like it!

Mary Jane - Chain Flite CD, 1998

Smoking beats, layed back hip-hop style containing an Alkaholics sample from the tune of the same name. Starting off very hip hop but then going more atmospheric and trippy. The conga solo in the central section is actually sequenced though it sounds pretty realistic in my opinion. Then the organ and bass riff, from the DX-21 'drawbars' preset and a proper funky bassline sample from the Peddlers filtered down to just the bass. Digital synth textures from my SY-55.
